Using Accredited Symbian Developer for recruitment and training needs assessment

The Accredited Symbian Developer (ASD) exam can be used in the following ways:

As a recruitment tool:

(1) ASD is a badge of competence. The questions within the ASD exam are designed to be challenging; the exam is not easy. You can be confident that any job candidate who is an “Accredited Symbian Developer” has a sound and up-to-date understanding of Symbian C++ and is aware of the idiosyncrasies of Symbian software development.

(2) The ASD exam can be used as a candidate assessment tool, replacing the traditional technical interview with an accurate and quantifiable means to assess technical strengths and weaknesses. Each exam results in an overview of a candidate's areas of strength and weakness, and also indicates a candidate's level of competence relative to the wider population of ASDs.

To assess training needs:

(3) The ASD exam can be used to assess internal training needs. As the chart below illustrates, it can cost-effectively identify weaknesses in an organisation's knowledge. For instance, in the example shown more than 10% of the 37 candidates tested are weak in their knowledge of "Sockets", "DBMS", "Dynamic Arrays" and "File Server", and would benefit from additional training... money spent on training in other competence areas, such as "C++ basics", would be wasted.

The ASD programme is licensed by Symbian to Majinate. To purchase an ASD exam, to find details of a local supplier, or to obtain more information on the data that the ASD exam can be used to provide, visit their website here.
