Because of the Code

Because of the Code winners list

Over recent weeks Symbian Developer Network judges have been busily dissecting the entries to the “Because of the Code” competition. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to craft and submit code; we have been extremely impressed by the ingenuity, simplicity and sophistication of the entries.

There are 29 winners in total, but within those the judges agonised over identifying the ten most commendable submissions. And, of those, they identified one entry as exceptional. The judges’ favourite entry managed within 100 lines of code to ingeniously create a stand-alone game. It was:

  • Aymen Naim
  • Bharat Hegde
  • John Peter
  • Jo Stitchbury
  • Chris Davies

Phil Spencer biography

In his teens Phil wrote several freeware and shareware utilities for the Psion machines, the precursors to Symbian smarpthones, one of which would go on to find its place in the Top 10 best-selling Psion shareware of all time.

At the age of 17 he joined Symbian as a full-time employee, eventually heading up the Developer Community team – a dedicated team whose aim was to help developers on Symbian OS.

After contributing to many of the books published by Symbian Press and working on many of the initiatives still benefiting UIQ and S60 developers today, in January 2006 Phil moved to Quickoffice to manage the relationship between Quickoffice and Nokia.
