NNTP access and spam problem

Hello,

I still prefer accessing these forums using the NNTP interface, as I find a news reader to be more efficient for browsing through lots of threads, compared to the current web interface.

That said, I noticed that the cleanup of spam mails in the NNTP view of the forums has effectively in recent months, so that the ratio of "cheap shoes" vs. "useful information" has gradually become worse (while spam posts get removed fairly quickly from the Web version of the forums). Spam mails also leave a trace in the "Popular tag" list: just copying these from the bottom of the screen right now yields, among others:

cheap clothes jeans jordan nike shoes t-shirt wholesale

I think this is something that needs a bit more attention, because in my view it makes the site look a bit unprofessional... I am happy to flag any post as "spam" that I come across, but it seems to have only partial effect on the fourm database.

Thanks for listening.

ciao marcus
